Announcement of New Marine Security Initiatives

On 22 April the government announced details of a $300 million, five-year package of initiatives designed to enhance the security of the Canadian marine transportation system and maritime borders.

These initiatives include expansion of operations and response capabilities of the CBSA related to new radiation detection equipment to screen marine containers entering Canadian ports; furthering Transport Canada’s ability to apply and enforce Marine Transportation Security Regulations passed in 2004; and enhancement of waterside security co-ordination.
