Request for Removal of Customs Duties on Imports of Polythylene Terephthalate
The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of polyethylene terephthalate. This resin is classified under tariff item No. 3907.60.90 of the Customs Tariff dutiable at 6.5% under the MostFavoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is no preference offered for polyethylene terephthalate under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT) rate .

The applicant claims that domestic production of polyethylene terephthalate is insufficient to meet Canadian needs, and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness.

Members with an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, are asked to contact Paul Robichaud in the International Trade Policy Division at 613.992.2510, or by e-mail at [email protected].
