CPR Customer Bulletin: Strike plan update

The following news release was issued by the Vice President of CPR’s Marketing and Yield Division.

As previously communicated, the union representing CP's maintenance of way employees has issued strike notice to be effective 23:59 MT on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

We are now entering the final implementation stage of our strike plan. Trained replacement workers from our management ranks continue to take up their positions across the network and meet with their local area supervisor's for final job briefings.   All of our first wave of replacement personnel will be in place today in advance of the start of the maintenance of way strike. We do not anticipate any readiness issues at this time.

Once again I will remind you that this strike does not include any personnel involved in train operations. Our core activities - car ordering, waybilling, train movement, intermodal handling, interchange service, shipment management, invoicing and after sales care - will all be managed on a normal basis. We are ready to continue safe rail operations despite the strike.

We have initiated an embargo program designed to manage inbound flows and enable fluidity. This program applies to a very limited number of stations on 15 subdivisions. We will continue to evaluate service requirements for all of these locations and issue permits for shipments consistent with a revised schedule to these locations. Embargo details can be found on the AAR website. To apply for permits, please visit CPR’s website for instructions.

As of 07:00 this morning the network is in good shape and there are no major delays on the system to report.
