Key Step Completed on Road towards Canadian beef access to South Korea

The following is excerpted from a 30 December 2011 news release by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and International Trade Minister Ed Fast today announced that a major step has been taken towards restoring access for Canadian beef in South Korea with the South Korean Parliament ratifying the import health requirements for Canadian beef, under 30 months of age. CFIA-AIRS Updates 1 January 2012

As a result of amendments to the HS Code structure implemented by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on January 1, 2012, CFIA made the same changes to its database of HS Codes and OGD extensions. To view the list of the HS Codes (CFIA regulated commodities) that have been deleted or added to the CFIA-Automated Import Reference System (AIRS), please refer to our web site at: http://inspection.gc.ca/english/imp/hscodee.shtml

Update to CFIA AIRS Website

Chapter 03 was published to streamline requirements with the following HS Codes. 03.02 - Fish, fresh or chilled, excluding fish fillets and other fish meat of heading No. 03.04. 03.03 - Fish, frozen, excluding fish fillets and other fish meat of heading No. 03.04. 03.04 - Fish fillets and other fish meat (whether or not minced), fresh, chilled or frozen Please check your version number before submitting through EDI. CFIA-AIRS Updates - effective 1 January 2012

The Harmonized System (HS) upon which the Custom Tariff is based is periodically updated by the World Customs Organization (WCO) with the most recent one being on January 1, 2012. As a result of these updates, CFIA updated its database of HS Codes and OGD extensions. To view the list of the HS Codes (CFIA regulated commodities) that have been deleted or added to the CFIA-Automated Import Reference System (AIRS), please refer to our web site at:

CBSA Message: CFIA HS Codes

The following message is from CBSA (EDI11-091). Please note that there will be changes to the list of HS codes subject to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements. These changes will be effective in the ACROSS system on Sunday, January 1st, 2012, and the CBSA website will be updated accordingly. Please see attachment. Mattress Innerspring Units, Interim Review No. RD-2011-004

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) hereby gives notice that, pursuant to subsection 76.01(1) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), it has initiated an interim review of its finding made on November 24, 2009, in Inquiry No. NQ-2009-002, concerning the dumping of mattress innerspring units, with or without edgeguards, used in the manufacture of innerspring mattresses, originating in or exported from the People’s Republic of China. Government Launches Consultations on Canada's Foreign Trade Zone Like Policies and Programs

Release of The Fiscal Monitor

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today released The Fiscal Monitor for October 2011. HIGHLIGHTS OCTOBER 2011: BUDGETARY DEFICIT OF $2.2 BILLION There was a budgetary deficit of $2.2 billion in October 2011, compared to a deficit of $4.1 billion in October 2010.

South American bloc Mercosur to raise tariffs

The following is from a December 23 release from the Business Recorder. Leaders of the South American trade bloc Mercosur agreed here to temporarily raise tariffs on products coming from outside of the trade zone, to offset "trade imbalances" caused by the global financial crisis.

Government of Canada responds to United States Federal Maritime Commission inquiry

The following is a 22 December 2011 release from Transport Canada. The Government of Canada today welcomed the opportunity to respond officially to the United States (U.S.) Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Notice of Inquiry, Docket 11-19. Canada presented a fact-based submission underscoring the importance to both countries of the integrated North American economy and the strong Canada-U.S. trade relationship.

CBSA Message Processing Delay Update

The following is a CBSA message (EDI11-90 Update). The source of our system slowdown has been isolated and resolved. We are currently now experiencing a delay of less than 5 hours in processing Electronic Releases, RNS, CSA, ACI Marine, ACI Air, ACI eManifest Highway as well as Rail and Highway Cargo. This does not impact CADEX and CUSDEC B3 processing.
