PM welcomes all-member support for entry into Trans-Pacific Partnership

The following is a 19 June 2012 news release by the Office of the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Stephen Harper today welcomed the announcement by TPP members of their support for Canada joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). “Opening new markets and creating new business opportunities leads to jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians,” said Prime Minister Harper. “A TPP agreement will enhance trade in the Asia-Pacific region and will provide greater economic opportunity for Canadians and Canadian businesses.”

The CSCB has learned of the passing of Robert James Colvin of Fenix Data Systems, Inc., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Canada and Costa Rica Conclude Fourth Round of Talks to Expand Trade Agreement

The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today announced the successful conclusion of a fourth round of negotiations to modernize the Canada-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement. Negotiations took place in San José, Costa Rica, from June 11 to 15, 2012.

PM announces signing of an agreement for the construction of the new Detroit River International Crossing

The following is excerpted from a 15 June 2012 news release by the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada. Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the conclusion of an agreement between Canada and the State of Michigan toward building a new publicly owned bridge crossing between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan. The agreement establishes the framework for each party’s roles and responsibilities for the construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the new international crossing.

Iron, steel for new Windsor bridge must come from Canada or U.S.

The following is excerpted from the 15 June 2012 edition of The Globe and Mail. The Conservative government and the Michigan governor’s office have secured a deal to build a second bridge between Windsor and Detroit – a historic accord aimed at unclogging North America’s most important trade artery after decades of setbacks. Prime Minister Stephen Harper will visit Windsor and Detroit on Friday to unveil the agreement alongside Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, April 2012

The following is excerpted from a 15 June 2012 release by Statistics Canada. Manufacturing sales fell 0.8% in April to $49.1 billion, the third decline in four months. The aerospace product and parts industry and the petroleum and coal product industry posted the largest decreases, while sales of motor vehicles rose to the highest level since November 2007. Sales fell in 13 of 21 industries, representing approximately 45% of the manufacturing sector. Sales of durable goods decreased 0.7%, while non-durable goods sales declined 1.0%.

Harper to confirm $1B Windsor-Detroit bridge today

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in Windsor today to announce Canada and Michigan have agreed on a new international crossing between the southwestern Ontario city and Detroit. The new span is expected to cost $1 billion, and should alleviate border congestion and expedite shipping across North America's busiest border crossing. This article is available in its entirety at:
