Manitoba court will not suspend Canada Wheat Board law

The following is excerpted from the 24 February 2012 edition of Reuters Canada. A Manitoba court cleared away some of the uncertainty surrounding Western Canada's move to an open grain market on Friday, rejecting a request to suspend a federal law that ends the Canadian Wheat Board's marketing monopoly. The court case, one of several challenges to Ottawa's decision to scrap the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly, was launched by eight former directors of the CWB who wanted farmers to decide whether to keep the monopoly.

Napolitano calls COAC, endorses trade initiatives

The following is from the 24 February 2012 edition of American Shipper. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano phoned the members of the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee on Tuesday to affirm her commitment to the transformation underway at U.S. Customs designed to facilite cross-border trade. Napolitano made the call in the morning, prior to COAC's quarterly meeting in Washington. Joining her on the call from McAllen, Texas, was David Aguilar, acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, who expressed regret that he could not attend.

a) Chapter 25 was published to add the following OGD extensions for the end use "Human consumption". 25.01.00.7100.00 - Table salt 25.01.00.7999.00 – Other b) Chapter 27 was published to streamline the import conditions for the end use "Human consumption" for the following HS code. 27.12.20.0000.00 - Paraffin wax containing by weight less than 0.75% of oil c) Chapter 28 was published to add the following OGD extensions for the end use "Human consumption".

CBP Proposal Aims at Better Tracking and Enforcement of In-Bond Shipments

The following is excerpted from the 22 February 2012 edition of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is proposing various changes to its in-bond regulations to meet the realities of today’s real-time shipping environment and enhance CBP’s ability to regulate and track in-bond merchandise. These changes are in response to a Government Accountability Office report identifying various weaknesses in the in-bond process. Comments on this proposal are due no later than April 23.
