The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is requesting your assistance in providing important information to your members, clients and trade chain partners about the eManifest initiative. eManifest requirements for highway carriers to transmit cargo and conveyance data to the CBSA before goods arrive at the border are mandatory beginning November 1, 2012.

Nova Scotia port starts marketing campaign for container terminal

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CRBM) has launched a marketing campaign and a new Website to promote development of a new container port in Sydney, Nova Scotia. CRBM purchased about 500 acres of waterfront property in the port from Laurentian Energy Corp. in May. According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., the local government’s offer of $6 million bested two others from private developers.

Canada's job growth slowed in June for a second straight month in a reality check after outsized employment gains earlier this year, firming the market's view that the central bank won't act soon on recent hints of a rate hike. Waning business confidence due to the European debt crisis and a stalled U.S. economy meant Canada generated just 7,300 net new jobs last month, adding to 7,700 in May, according to Statistics Canada data released on Friday.

Chapter 89 was published to change the release recommendation from "Refer to CFIA-ISC" to "Approved" for the following HS code. 89.03 - Yachts and other vessels for pleasure or sports; rowing boats and canoes. This created requirement version changes for the following HS codes. 89.01 - Cruise ships, excursion boats, ferry-boats, cargo ships, barges and similar vessels for the transport of persons or goods. 89.02 - Fishing vessels; factory ships and other vessels for processing or preserving fishery products. 89.04 - Tugs and pusher craft.
D-98-08: Entry Requirements for Wood Packaging Material into Canada

CFIA have provided the 9th revision of CFIA Policy Directive D-98-08: Requirements for the Entry of Wood Packaging Material into Canada. This revision has been undertaken to reflect the amendments made to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15 regarding approved treatments for debarked wood and marking requirements. In addition, the revision establishes specific import requirements for dunnage entering Canada aboard ships.
