Regulation - Order amending the Area Control List

The following is a 24 April 2012 notice from Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. On April 24, 2012, the Government of Canada finalized the regulatory process to amend the Area Control List (ACL). This amendment formally removes Myanmar (Burma) from the ACL, a list of countries to which the Governor in Council deems it necessary to control the export or transfer of any goods and technology.

A panel at the 7th Annual Homeland Security Law Institute event in March raised the specter of an international hacking incident. The panel — composed of senior attorneys from the CIA, FBI, Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Justice Department’s National Security Division — presented a hypothetical scenario involving a defense contractor that had an agreement with a U.S.-based cloud computing company.

Higher sales were reported in most subsectors in February, four of which accounted for about 90% of the national growth. In volume terms, wholesale sales were up 2.2% in February.
