Study okays Canada-Japan trade talks

The following is excerpted from the 20 March 2012 edition of Embassy Magazine. A new government report has given trade talks between Canada and Japan a thumbs up, but noted that both countries aren't seeing eye-to-eye on several trade issues, and will want to protect industries like agriculture—leading one expert to cast doubt on the seriousness of the exercise.

Rare earth trade fight goes to WTO

The following is from the 14 March 2012 edition of American Shipper. The United States, Japan and European Union on Tuesday requested World Trade Organization consultations to settle an increasingly nasty dispute over China’s restrictions on exports of various rare earth metals, tungsten and molybdenum. These metals are used heavily in the electronics industry. China reportedly controls more than 95 percent of these metal inputs.
