Update to CFIA AIRS Website

a) Chapter 07 was published to streamline the import conditions for the following HS code. 07.05.11.3027 - Iceberg lettuce b) Chapter 07 was also published to change the release recommendation from "Refuse Entry" TO "Approved" for the following HS code with the miscellaneous code "Rooted, grown in soil-free media" from all origins other than the continental United-States. 07.09.99.3034 - Herbs - with or without roots (fresh or chilled). Please check your version numbers before submitting through EDI.

GHS Implementation Update

CBSA has provided the following update on the implementation of the Generic Harmonized System tariff items for low value shipments imported into Canada. CSCB Ontario and Toronto Regions Co-Host Annual Conference

Once again the Ontario and Toronto Divisions of the CSCB will be holding a joint annual conference. This year’s event will be held at the Waterside Inn in Port Credit on June 14-15. An afternoon fishing charter has been planned to kick things off on the 14th with a day of presentations and the AGMs on the 15th so mark those dates in your calendars and watch for further details. _________________________________________________

8-3, Calculating Input Tax Credits

The following form has is available on the Canada Revenue Agency website: 8-3, Calculating Input Tax Credits This memorandum explains the general method for calculating input tax credits (ITCs) as provided for under the Excise Tax Act (Act). It sets out the requirement to apportion goods and services between commercial and non‑commercial activities, and outlines methods for doing so. It also explains the rules affecting ITCs in respect of improvements to capital property as well as those for leases and ongoing services.

Canadian economic accounts, Fourth quarter 2011 and December 2011

The following is excerpted from a 2 March 2012 release by Statistics Canada. Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.4% in the fourth quarter, after advancing 1.0% in the third quarter. Consumer spending and exports contributed the most to fourth-quarter GDP growth. Final domestic demand grew 0.5%. On a monthly basis, real GDP by industry increased 0.4% in December. Consumer spending on goods and services expanded 0.7% in the fourth quarter, up from the 0.4% gain in the previous quarter. Purchases of durable goods grew 2.1%, up from a 0.2% decline.

Update to CFIA AIRS Website

Chapter 07 was published to change the release recommendation from "Approved" to "Refuse Entry" for the following HS code with the miscellaneous code "Rooted, grown in soil-free media" from all origins other than the continental United-States. 07.09.99.3034 - Herbs - with or without roots (fresh or chilled). This created a requirement version change for the same HS code from the continental United States Please check your version numbers before submitting through EDI. If you have any questions, please contact your Import Service Centre.
