Government of Canada Improves Service Delivery for Consumers, Producers and all Businesses

The following is excerpted from a 27 February 2012 news release by Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz announced today that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched a Statement of Rights and Service for Producers, Consumers and Other Stakeholders and six guides to inspection. The statement and guides will give consumers, producers and businesses an important tool in their interactions with the CFIA by outlining what the CFIA does, its service standards and what the sector can expect when dealing with the CFIA.

Manitoba court will not suspend Canada Wheat Board law

The following is excerpted from the 24 February 2012 edition of Reuters Canada. A Manitoba court cleared away some of the uncertainty surrounding Western Canada's move to an open grain market on Friday, rejecting a request to suspend a federal law that ends the Canadian Wheat Board's marketing monopoly. The court case, one of several challenges to Ottawa's decision to scrap the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly, was launched by eight former directors of the CWB who wanted farmers to decide whether to keep the monopoly.

Napolitano calls COAC, endorses trade initiatives

The following is from the 24 February 2012 edition of American Shipper. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano phoned the members of the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee on Tuesday to affirm her commitment to the transformation underway at U.S. Customs designed to facilite cross-border trade. Napolitano made the call in the morning, prior to COAC's quarterly meeting in Washington. Joining her on the call from McAllen, Texas, was David Aguilar, acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, who expressed regret that he could not attend.
