New study shows that Port of Hamilton adds $5.9B to Canadian economy

NCBFAA seeks revised FDA agent designation

The following is from the 3 November 2011 edition of the American Shipper. The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America has asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to revise its process for designating a U.S. agent before implementing foreign facility re-inspection fees under the Food Safety Modernization Act. U.S. agents designated under FDA’s current process, which was developed under the Bioterrorist Act (BTA), serve for the limited purpose of notification, the Washington-based organization said in a Nov. 1 letter to the FDA.

August 2011 Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Rose 18.3 Percent from August 2010

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American neighbors, Canada and Mexico, was 18.3 percent higher in August 2011 than in August 2010, totaling $80.4 billion (Table 1), according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. ECB cuts rates in surprise move

The European Central Bank cut interest rates by a quarter point to 1.25 percent in a surprise move Thursday, acting boldly to support the ailing euro zone economy at President Mario Draghi's first policy meeting in charge. Loonie jumps to session high after ECB rate cut

The Canadian dollar strengthened to a session high against its U.S. counterpart on Thursday after the European Central Bank cut interest rates, while global markets see-sawed amid chaos over Greece's role in the euro zone. The Canadian dollar spiked to C$1.0067 to the U.S. dollar, or 99.38 U.S. cents, after the surprise ECB cut, up from Wednesday's North American session close at C$1.0136 to the U.S. dollar, or 98.66 U.S. cents. __________________________________________________

Weaker oil prices and production slow Newfoundland and Labrador's export growth to 2 per cent in 2012, predicts Export Development Canada

2012 Customs Tariff - Update

The CBSA has advised the CSCB that they intend to have the complete 2012 tariff available in a downloadable format by December 1, 2011. They have also advised that, rather than waiting for the complete tariff to be available, they will release each downloadable chapter as it is ready. We do not yet have any word on when concordance tables might be available. __________________________________________________
