Kewill study shows lack of export automation

The following is from the 26 October 2011 edition of the American Shipper. Trade and logistics software developer Kewill has released its second annual review of the state of global trade management, 2011 Best Practices Survey for Global Trade Management, and found that 73 percent of the industry still has completely manual or semi-automated processes for preparing export documentation.

The WTO’s report on G-20 trade measures, issued on 26 October 2011, said that “disappointingly weak growth in some G-20 countries and continuing macroeconomic imbalances globally are testing the political resolve of many governments to abide by the G-20 commitment to resist protectionism”. It said that “the situation is not yet alarming, but it is clearly adding to the downside risks to the global economy”...

A 50-year-old worker in 2008 could expect to stay in the labour force 3.5 years longer than in the mid-1990s, according to an indicator that tracks the retirement behaviour of Canadians. Using Labour Force Survey data, this indicator estimates the number of years a 50-year-old worker can expect to work before retiring, if retirement rates of a given year prevail. Expected working life is estimated using a method similar to that used for calculating life expectancy...

The following is excerpted from a 25 October 2011 release by Statistics Canada. Retail sales rose 0.5% to $37.8 billion in August, largely offsetting the decline in July. Gains were reported in 6 of 11 subsectors, representing 70% of retail sales. The increase was led by higher sales at gasoline stations and motor vehicle and parts dealers.
