Bank of Canada maintains overnight rate target at 1 per cent

The following is excerpted from a 25 October 2011 news release by the Bank of Canada. The Bank of Canada today announced that it is maintaining its target for the overnight rate at 1 per cent. The Bank Rate is correspondingly 1 1/4 per cent and the deposit rate is 3/4 per cent.

Canada Wheat Board bill moves closer to law

A government bill to end the Canadian Wheat Board's grain monopoly cleared another stage in the House of Commons on Monday, as Ottawa races to make the most important change to Western Canada's grain industry since World War 2. Canada pushes back in EU oilsands trade spat

The following is excerpted from the 24 October 2011 edition of CBC News. Canada's natural resources minister is criticizing the European Union over its plan to discriminate against Canadian oil derived from Alberta's oilsands. Joe Oliver released a letter Sunday to EU energy commissioner Gunther Oettinger in which he lambastes the EU's fuel quality directive — a proposal that ranks fuels based on their carbon footprint, and suggests ranking Canadian oil derived from oilsands in a separate category because it is perceived to be so dirty.

Transport Canada - Changes to Pre-Clearance Process

The CSCB has heard from its members regarding recent changes to Transport Canada’s pre-clearance process. This process allows dealers, purchasing specific vehicles from specific manufacturers, to more easily import vehicles from the United States. Changes to this program have resulted in many questions, some of which remain unanswered. We will follow up and provide additional information as it becomes available. However, through discussions with both CBSA and Transport Canada, we are able to provide the following key messages.

CFIA - Planned System Outage

This message is to advise you that CFIA has an outage scheduled for Saturday October 29, 2011 - 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM EST. Please submit all urgent Requests for Release via the paper process to your Import Service Centre. The AIRS tool will remain available to you via the CFIA website and any EDI transaction submitted during the down time will be held in the work queue and processed through the system once it is back up. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Serial No. 803 1.0 Purpose 1.1 The purpose of this Notice is to outline the Minister's policies and practices respecting supplementary imports of dairy products. 1.2 This Notice should be read with the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) and the EIPA Regulations. Where elements of the present Notice augment relevant sections of the EIPA and EIPA Regulations, those elements are to be read as expressions of the Minister's normal practices and procedures.
