We are curious as why this information can be shown on CITT and SIMA publications/documents, but not for Advance Rulings. Are you able to tell us why CBSA cannot publish that information? Canadian pork industry groups called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Tuesday to push ahead with free trade talks with South Korea, fearing Canada will lose sales to rival meat exporters such as the United States and Chile. South Korea, which was Canada's fourth-biggest pork export market in 2009, is particularly hungry for meat imports in the wake of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease that has forced widespread slaughter of its livestock herds.

Imports of chassis and motors for use in the manufacture of ambulances

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of chassis and motors for use in the manufacture of ambulances. These chassis and motors are classified under tariff item No. 8704.21.00 of the Customs Tariff , dutiable at 6.1% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff, and at 6% under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT).

AMPS – Penalty Reinvestment Agreement (PRA)

At the request of the CSCB, CBSA has provided some numbers regarding the Penalty Reinvestment Agreement (PRA). To date, CBSA have received a total of 5 PRA applications, all of which are pending approval. The PRA allows importers reinvest all or a portion of a penalty applied under AMPS toward eligible costs incurred to correct the systematic problem that resulted in the issuance of penalties. Information on the PRA is available in D22-1-2.

Use of the Broker’s Business Number

Since at least 2007, the CSCB has requested that CBSA clarify the policy surrounding the use of the broker’s Business Number (BN) when it is used to process non-commercial (casual) importations through the commercial stream. Although CBSA has advised brokers to use their own BN in the above instance, CBSA did not indicate if there would be any liability for the broker should a contravention occur.
