Tar sands row threatens Canada-EU trade deal: sources

The following is a 21 February 2011 news release by Reuters Canada. Canada has threatened to scrap a trade deal with the European Union if the EU persists with plans that would block imports of Canada's highly polluting tar sands, according to EU documents and sources. The European Union has told its fuel suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of fuels by 6 percent over the next decade, and is now fine-tuning "default values" to help suppliers identify the most carbon-intensive imports.

The following is a 17 February 2011 news release by Reuters Canada. Canada's dollar hit its highest in nearly three years, spurred by cautious optimism on the U.S. economy from the U.S. Federal Reserve and buoyed by a firm oil price and a positive outlook for global equity markets. The currency jumped as high as C$0.9816 to the U.S. dollar, or $1.0187, its highest since March 2008.

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 Partial EDI Outage: For maintenance purposes, the following EDI applications will be unavailable from 04:30 to 05:30 (Eastern Time) AND from 08:00 to 09:00 (ET) : Electronic Releases, RNS, CSA, ACI Marine, ACI Air, ACI eManifest Highway as well as Rail and Highway Cargo. Please note that CADEX and CUSDEC B3 processing will not be affected by this outage, except between 05:00 and 05:30 (ET) as indicated below.
Destination address validation

Please be informed as of April 1, 2011, clients that transmit The Accelerated Commercial Release Operations Support System (ACROSS) data in the Customs Automated Data Exchange System (CADEX) message map will now be required to provide the destination city, destination province and destination postal code in addition to the destination name and address currently provided for all Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) transactions. These data elements must be transmitted in the RR30, RR31 and RR32 records.
CFIA Eastern Import Service Centre transition

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) Eastern Import Service Centre (EISC), located in Anjou, Quebec, is transitioning from a service centre that serves Eastern Canada and Quebec to a satellite office, the National Import Service Centre Satellite Office (NSO) that will support the National Import Service Centre (NISC) in Toronto and serve all of Canada. The operational and service procedures for Importers, Brokers and Stakeholders will remain the same. The transition began on February 1, 2011 and will formally be in place as of April 1, 2011.
