CBSA Message: Holidays Schedule

The following is a CBSA message (EDI10-115). The Electronic Commerce Unit at the CBSA will be closed on Monday, December 27th and Tuesday, December 28th. Monday, December 27th and Tuesday, December 28th will not be counted in the calculation of overdue entries. B3 entries processed and accepted on Monday, December 27th and Tuesday, December 28th will appear on the daily K84 notice generated through overnight batch on Wednesday, December 29th, and statement dated Thursday, December 30th.

Imports of certain blends of oils

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of blends of oils, containing 2% or less of trans fatty acids, for use in the manufacture of food products. These blends of oils are classified under heading 15.17 of the Customs Tariff as edible mixtures or preparations of animal or vegetable oils, specifically tariff item No. 1517.90.99, dutiable at 11% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is no rate available under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT).

Canada reaches open skies agreements with Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago

The following is a 20 December 2010 news release by Transport Canada. The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade, today announced that open skies-type air transport agreements have been concluded with both Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. The new agreements give airlines additional flexibility for route selection, frequency of service and price setting. Airports will also be in a position to better market their services.

Certain Steel Grating

Further to an earlier message, CBSA has now provided additional information on their website regarding preliminary determinations of dumping and subsidizing, pursuant to subsection 38(1) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), in respect of certain metal bar grating of carbon, alloy or stainless steel, consisting of load-bearing pieces and cross pieces, produced as standard grating or heavy-duty grating, in panel form, whether galvanized, painted, coated, clad or plated, originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China.

Certain Structural Steel Tubing

Further to an earlier message, CBSA has now provided additional information on their website regarding their re-investigation to update the normal values and export prices, pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), in respect of certain steel structural tubing originating in or exported from the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkey. Carbon Steel Grating - Preliminary Determinations

Preliminary Determinations respecting Certain Steel Grating originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China. On December 20, 2010, the President of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) made preliminary determinations of dumping and subsidizing, pursuant to subsection 38(1) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), in respect of certain steel grating originating in or exported from China. Provisional duties will now be payable on the subject goods that are released from the CBSA on or after December 20, 2010.

CBSA's website now lists Frequently Asked Questions about the NEXUS Program. The NEXUS Program is a bi-national, Canada-United States program for pre-approved, low-risk travellers entering Canada or the United States (U.S.) at designated air, land and marine ports of entry. The program enables its members to enter either country more quickly and easily by using automated self-serve kiosks in the air mode of travel, dedicated lanes in the land mode of travel, and by calling Telephone Reporting Centres (TRCs) prior to arrival in the marine mode of travel.
