CBSA Message: Duplicate Cargo Control Numbers

The following is a CBSA message (EDI12-053) If you receive a reject message on your release transaction for “invalid status of request/cargo control number” or “ccn in history” (error code 464 and T36) there is no need to contact the EDI hotline during the day or after business hours. These reject messages mean the cargo control number (CCN) has been used previously. In order to correct the reject, a new cargo control number is required from the carrier.

VINLock - VIN Checking Service

At its recent meeting, the CSCB Board of Directors agreed to provide information to members about a free service offered by VINLock. This service allows brokers to be compliant with Bill S-9, insuring they are not "Trafficking in Stolen Vehicles". Bill S-9 was passed to thwart crimes perpetrated by organized criminals, including the trafficking of vehicles. VINLock offers a free, easy-to-use solution to check every VIN of a vehicle presented for import or export using an online tool called VINLock.

Canada Concludes Third Round of Free Trade Negotiations with Morocco

The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today announced the conclusion of the third round of negotiations toward a free trade agreement with Morocco. Negotiations took place in Ottawa from June 18 to 22, 2012.

Bitter battle rages over Canada's sugar industry

The following is excerpted from the 24 June 2012 edition of The Globe and Mail. Greaves Jams & Marmalades in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., buys about 120 tonnes of sugar a year – enough to make 1 million jars of preserves. Suffice to say, production manager Rudy Doerwald keeps close tabs on the price of the sweetener, but with just two suppliers to choose from, he has no choice but to take what’s offered.

A bridge too far? Not for Canada

The Detroit Free Press was fulsome the other day in its praise of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s adroit handling of the Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC), the formal designation of the new bridge that will – perhaps by 2016 – connect Detroit and Windsor four kilometres downstream from the gridlocked Ambassador Bridge. The Michigan legislature wouldn’t pay for its up-front share of $500-million? Not to worry. Mr. Harper has taken care of it.
