CFIA Production Database Backup, 7 July

This is a reminder that a full database backup of the production database (PROD) is scheduled for Saturday, July 7th, 2012. CFIA systems will be unavailable from 3 am to 8 am EST. Please note that full database backups of the production database (PROD) are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month between 3 am to 7 am EST. _________________________________________________

Interest rates for the third calendar quarter

The following is from a 28 June 2012 news release by Canada Revenue Agency. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) today announced the prescribed annual interest rates that will apply to any amounts owed to the CRA and to any amounts the CRA owes to individuals and corporations. These rates are calculated quarterly in accordance with applicable legislation and will be in effect from July 1, 2012 to September 30, 2012. The rates below remain unchanged. The following is a CBSA message (EDI12-054) The Electronic Commerce Unit of the Canada Border Services Agency will be closed on the statutory holiday of Monday, July 2, 2012. B3 entries processed and accepted July 2, 2012 will appear on the daily K84 notice generated at the end of the day on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. The exchange rates from Friday, June 29, 2012 to Tuesday, July 3, 2012 (inclusive) will remain unchanged. Monday, July 2, 2012 will not be counted in the calculation of overdue B3 entries. _________________________________________________

US Global Trade Forecast to Grow 4.7 Percent

The following is from the 27 June 2012 edition of the Journal of Commerce. Lead by exports, trade expected to rise during next 15 years U.S.-based companies’ imports and exports will rise 4.7 percent annually during the next 15 years, led by exports to feed consumer demand in emerging markets, according to a new report by HSBC Commercial Banking. The HSBC Global Connections Trade Forecast, produced with Delta Economics, forecasts growth despite global economic difficulties, notably in Europe.

CITT initiates Expiry Review seamless carbon or alloy steel oil and gas well casing from China

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today initiated an expiry review of its finding made on March 10, 2008, in Inquiry No. NQ-2007-001, concerning the dumping and subsidizing of seamless carbon or alloy steel oil and gas well casing from China. NAFTA Surface Trade in April up 8.2 Percent Year-Over-Year

The value of surface trade fell 6.9 percent from March The value of surface transportation trade between the U.S. and Canada and Mexico in April rose 8.2 percent year-over-year but fell 6.9 percent from March, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Expanded border wait time system improves cross-border travel

The following is excerpted from a 26 June 2012 news release by Transport Canada. A new border delay message sign on Highway 1 will make it easier for motorists and commercial vehicle operators travelling to the U.S. to plan their route and save time. The sign was announced today by Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway Ed Fast and British Columbia Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Blair Lekstrom.
