The following is excerpted from a 31 January 2012 release by Statistics Canada. Real gross domestic product edged down 0.1% in November, following no growth in October and monthly increases from June to September. Most of the November decline was accounted for by lower output in the energy sector. Decreases were also recorded in wholesale trade, finance and insurance, and construction. Gains were posted in manufacturing, retail trade, accommodation and food services, professional services and real estate agents and brokers.

If you have not, please just login to your account and click on the “Renew your CCS designation” link from the CCS Resources menu and follow the instructions to complete your renewal. Once your payment is processed, you will be emailed a receipt that you can use for tax purposes. You may also provide it to your employer for reimbursement.

Entering the Port of Chicago, one pharmaceuticals importer felt as if it were in the movie “Groundhog Day.” The shipper was caught up in red tape every time it brought goods into the port, said Brenda Smith, executive director of trade policy and programs for Customs and Border Protection.

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today released The Fiscal Monitor for November 2011. Highlights November 2011: budgetary deficit of $1.9 billion There was a budgetary deficit of $1.9 billion in November 2011, compared to a deficit of $4.5 billion in November 2010.

Members should take note that Customs Notice 12-002 addresses several amendments to the Energy Efficiency Regulations, including new requirements for non-regulated end-use goods that might include, or be sold with, regulated goods.
