Enrol in the Certified Customs Specialist Course before deadline!

Members are reminded that the deadline for submission of applications for this year’s Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) course is 31 October 2010. Please ensure that we receive your application by that date. The online CCS course offers flexible and interactive professional training for adult learners. Available in both English and French, the CCS course covers the entire CCS curriculum, including web-based tests and supplementary reference materials. Students can study wherever there is an Internet connection.

Quiz Three for CCS Designates

The third quiz for CCS designates will be available on October 6th, and must be submitted by 2 p.m. EST on November 9th. A separate e-mail message will be sent with details on how to access the quiz. Those who successfully complete the quiz will have 10 CCS points added to their record for 2010.

Cambodia - IPPC Stamp

Please be advised the CFIA has received official notification from the NPPO of Cambodia of the fraudulent use of an ISPM No. 15 logo on wood packaging material. Wood-packaging material bearing the stamp KH.CPM001 MB.DB is not recognized by the NPPO of Cambodia, has not been treated according to the international standard ISPM No. 15 and is considered non-compliant.

Canada Gazette – Notices and Proposed Regulations

Members may be interested in the following notices and proposed regulations published on October 2, 2010, in Part I of the Canada Gazette. 1. Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act Notice of intent to amend the Domestic Substances List under section 66 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 to indicate that two substances meet the reduced regulatory requirement polymer criteria.

Health Canada: Exemption Regulations Consultation extended

Further to our message of August 10, 2010 ( http://new.cscb.ca/article/health-canada-exemption-regulations-consulta…), Health Canada has advised that the deadline for consultation on the Mandatory Reporting Policy has been extended. Health Canada has received several requests from stakeholders to extend the comment period for the Consultation on the Mandatory Reporting Policy for the proposed Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. The new deadline for comments is October 29, 2010.

Minister of Transport addresses ICAO

Minister of Transport confirms Canada's commitment to international aviation safety, security, sustainability The following is a 28 September 2010 news release by Transport Canada. The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today addressed Canada’s international aviation partners at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO’s) 37th General Assembly. Government of Canada Moves Forward With Tax Relief and Benefits for Canadians

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today tabled in the House of Commons a Notice of Ways and Means Motion to implement key tax relief measures from Budget 2010. “Reducing the tax burden on Canadian families and businesses through a more efficient and fairer tax system helps support Canada’s economic recovery,” said Minister Flaherty. “These measures will help our recovery and create jobs.” The Notice of Ways and Means Motion includes tax measures to:
