Harper Government Opens New Markets for P.E.I.

CSCB Toronto Regional Council notice

The CSCB Toronto Regional Council is looking for members who would like to become actively involved in our local CSCB region. We have a thriving council that provides value to our local membership through education and general meetings, and subcommittees that meet regularly with local and regional CBSA executive. As a council, we meet once monthly in addition to the open education and general meetings. As a result of their activities, our council members also compile issues and comments to submit to the National Office and the NCOI.

CSCB National Conference

The CSCB has just finished a very well-attended and successful national conference and annual general meeting in Ottawa. Delegates enjoyed the hospitality of the Westin Ottawa and a solid business program that highlighted the longstanding collaborative working relationship that exists between customs brokers and government officials responsible for border services and the issues currently on that shared agenda.

Report to Canadians Shows Canada’s Economic Action Plan Is Supporting the Recovery

Through the Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada has committed funds to over 23,000 projects across Canada to stimulate the economy and put Canadians back to work. The announcement was made by the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, together with the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, upon release of the 6th report to Canadians on the implementation of the Economic Action Plan.

This notice announces a proposed regulatory change in support of the NEXUS and CANPASS programs and the alternative presentation of persons under the Customs Act.

CFIA Validation Process

Earlier this year, the CFIA advised that destination addresses and postal codes for importers, required in ACROSS, would now be validated by CFIA. At the time, there were some difficulties with this process and CFIA have now advised that the validation process will go into effect on April 1, 2011. Details from CFIA follow. Advance Rulings

At the request of members, the CSCB has asked CBSA to confirm the time it should take to obtain an Advance Ruling. CBSA have advised that they make every attempt to meet the time framed noted in D11-11-3. That information is reproduced below. They have also advised that the same standard applies to Origin Rulings, and that they would suggest that 30 days after a request has been submitted, the client or broker might want to follow-up to ensure that the request was received in the Region.
