EICS: Service Interruption at Noon, Friday 17 September 2010

DFAIT will be making an emergency technical adjustment to the EICS system between 12:00 noon and 13:00 ET FRIDAY 17 SEPTEMBER. The system will be unavailable during this period, and any active sessions will be terminated. EDI transactions will be processed when system availability returns. PM announces support for revitalization of the Relance Terminal

Canada’s Economic Action Plan September 13, 2010 Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced support for the second phase of revitalizing the Relance Terminal in the Port of Sept-Îles. The Prime Minister also welcomed the significant progress achieved on the first phase of the revitalization, initiated in September 2009, which also received Economic Action Plan funding! . This Economic Action Plan initiative will create long-term jobs, improve the competitiveness of local industries and promote economic growth in Sept-Îles and the surrounding regions.

Certain Whole Potatoes

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today [September 10, 2010] issued an order following the expiry review of its order made on September 12, 2005, in Expiry Review No. RR-2004-006 concerning the dumping of certain whole potatoes originating in or exported from the United States of America for use or consumption in the province of British Columbia.

U.S. Meat Shipments at the Border

Members are aware that beginning January 4, 2010, CFIA discontinued their practice of providing advance notification of the examination of meat shipments from the U.S. Since that time, carriers have been advised by CBSA at the PIL whether or not the meat they are carrying has been selected for examination. If an examination is required, CBSA advises the carrier by affixing a stamp to the carrier's paperwork.

Planned border closings rankle communities

The following is excerpted from the 4 September 2010 edition of "montrealgazette.com". Opposition is growing to the Canadian Border Security Agency's (CBSA's) recent decision to close two Canadian border stations south of Montreal next spring. The mayor of Franklin, Suzanne Blair, will be holding a news conference next week to launch a petition drive. And the largest employer in the region, Les Vergers Leahy, has written federal authorities a strong letter of protest.
