Import Permits for Steel

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada have advised that they are planning to discontinue the requirement for import permits for steel, by the end of this year. Critical trade data will continue to be monitored and posted by DFAIT using data already collected by CBSA on imported goods. Additional information will be sent to members as it is received. Softwood Lumber Exports to the United States: Export of Softwood Lumber Products during June 2010 for those Regions Subject to Regional Quota Volumes

1.0 Purpose The purpose of this Notice is to provide information to exporters with respect to softwood lumber export volume restraints during the month of June, 2010. 2.0 Duration This Notice is effective from June 1, 2010 until June 30, 2010. 3.0 Authority Products covered by this Notice were added to the Export Control List (Group 5) of the Export and Import Permits Act in order to implement and satisfy the conditions of the Softwood Lumber Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States, 2006.

Manitoba’s exports begin slow, mixed recovery in 2010, says Export Development Canada

The following is excerpted from the 20 May 2010 news release by EDC. Manitoba’s exports are forecast to grow by 4 per cent in 2010 and 7 per cent in 2011, a modest recovery compared with the plunge in 2009, according to a Provincial Export Forecast released today by Export Development Canada (EDC). “The forecast by industry is as varied as Manitoba’s economy is diversified,” said Peter Hall, Chief Economist, EDC, during a speech in Winnipeg.

Suspected Brucellosis Investigation in British Columbia

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched a disease investigation on two farms in British Columbia, after three beef cows from these premises were classified as “reactors” on brucellosis tests done during routine slaughter testing in the United States.
