Nescafé Brand Espresso Instant Coffee May Contain Glass Fragments

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Nestlé Canada are warning the public not to consume the Nescafé brand Espresso instant coffee described below because the product may contain small fragments of glass. The affected product, Nescafé Espresso instant coffee, imported from France, is sold in 100 g glass jars with a black sleeve bearing UPC 5500065052. All lot codes are affected by this alert. This product has been distributed nationally. There have no reported injuries associated with the consumption of this product.

Dollar dives as commodities tumble

The following is excerpted from the 25 May 2010 edition of "globeandmail.com". The Canadian dollar slid to a near seven-month low Tuesday as commodity prices wilted and concerns mounted over European debt woes. Stock markets around the world fell. The loonie fell below the 93-cent (U.S.) mark to its lowest level since late October as commodities such as crude oil and copper sank. Canada’s benchmark S&P/TSX composite index tumbled 1.5 per cent to its lowest level in more than three months.

Baird announces $96M boost to airport cargo security

Canada imposes sanctions on N. Korea for warship sinking

The following is excerpted from today's edition of "The Star". Canada is imposing sanctions on North Korea for the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel in March. Prime Minister Stephen Harper says in a statement issued today that the sanctions will include enhanced restrictions on trade, investment and other bilateral relations with North Korea. The government will also suspend high-level visits to Canada by North Korean officials.

This memorandum outlines and explains the tariff classification of marble and granite blocks or slabs of tariff items 2515.12.00, 2516.12.10, 2516.12.90, 6802.21.00, 6802.23.00, 6802.91.00 and 6802.93.00. It reflects changes to CBSA policy made as a result of a decision of the CITT. Revisions Minor changes were made to the French version of this memorandum to align it with the English version. No changes were required to the English version except to update the "References" page to reflect changes to the CBSA structure.

CBSA Message: Victoria Day Holiday

The Electronic Commerce Unit's office will be closed on Monday, May 24th, 2010 due to the statutory holiday. For importers and brokers, the following are the accounting procedures for the statutory holiday: entries confirmed from May 22nd to May 25th, 2010 (inclusive) will appear on the K84 notice available on the morning of May 26th, 2010. The exchange rate provided the evening of May 21st will be in effect until May 25th, 2010 inclusive. Monday, May 24th, 2010 will not be counted in the calculation of Overdue B3 entries.

EICS: Frozen pork from the European Union as specified in the Surtax Order

This message applies to imports of frozen pork from the European Union falling under tariff item No. 0203.29.00 of the Customs Tariff. The purpose of this message is to inform you that the 2010-2011 tariff rate quota (TRQ) for frozen pork from the European Union will be accessible on Monday, July 5, 2010, at 12:00 hrs (noon) Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Any applications submitted prior to 12:00 hrs EDT on Monday, July 5, 2010 will be rejected.
