Effective June 28, 2010, shipments of tomato fruit from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey will be required to be accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate with an additional declaration stating: “This consignment originated from a place where Tuta absoluta is known not to occur and was inspected and found free of Tuta absoluta”. Shipments not meeting this requirement will be refused entry to Canada.

Chapter 07 was published to change the release recommendation from "Approved" to "Refer to CFIA-ISC" for the following HS Codes for the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey. 07.02.00.0001 - Tomatoes, field (fresh or chilled) 07.02.00.0002 - Tomatoes, greenhouse (fresh or chilled) This generated requirement version changes for the same SH Codes for all other countries except the United States.

Members may recall the recent outage which rendered CBSA unable to process outbound data for clients using the Customs Internet Gateway. A message sent to members on May 11 indicated that the CSCB had scheduled a call with CBSA to discuss this outage and associated issues, such as contingency plans and financial impacts. As a result of that call, and recommendations from the CSCB, the CBSA has provided the following contingency plan to be used in the case of a partial outage. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has removed quarantines from two British Columbia farms. A thorough investigation did not confirm the presence of brucellosis. The CFIA launched the investigation after three beef cows from the two B.C. farms were classified as “reactors” (suspect) on brucellosis tests. These tests were done by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) during routine slaughter testing. Animals on both farms were tested for brucellosis, all with negative results.

Advisory opinion: Goods and Technology requiring an export permit for the purposes of export or transfer, as required under s.13 of the Export and Import Permits Act, are included in the Export Control List, and published in A Guide to Canada’s Export Controls.
