CFIA Import Service Centres In order to expedite the review of CFIA paperwork, the national CFIA Import Service Centre (ISC) has forwarded documentation to the Montreal ISC for processing. However, members have brought to our attention that paperwork processed in Montreal on behalf of the national ISC has QST included on the accompanying invoice. CFIA have advised that this tax is not applicable to paperwork processed in Montreal for goods located outside of Quebec. Any QST that has been charged in error will be credited by CFIA.
Changes to import notification requirements – Phase 2

The CFIA have provided details on the second phase of changes to import notification requirements. Phase 1 came into effect on March 15, 2010, and phase 2 will come into effect on July 19, 2010. Phase 2 includes selected commodities under HS Chapters 9, 10 and 11.

Changes to the import permit application process CFIA have revised the import permit application process when applying for a permit to import plants and other items under the Plant Protection Act. The permit application may be submitted by fax (613-228-6605) or by e-mail ([email protected]). The new form does not include a "submit by e-mail" button, however, until that function is added, the application can be signed, scanned and sent as an e-mail attachment. Please be reminded that in all cases the original hard copy must follow.
