Update to CFIA AIRS website a) Chapter 16 was published to change the release recommendation from "Refuse entry" to "Approved" or from "Approved" to "Refuse entry" for the following HS codes with the end use "Travellers &Personal use and not for resale or distribution". 16.01.00 Sausages and similar products, of meat, meat offal or blood; food preparations based on these products. 16.02.00 Other prepared or preserved meat, meat offal or blood.

CFIA Cost Recovery and Framework The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is asking for comments on its Draft Cost Recovery Policy and Framework, a step in CFIA’s process to review and modernize service standards and user fees for services it provides. Reduction of Statistical Suffixes Statistics Canada is planning to reduce the number of 10-digit HS classification codes. Imports of certain apple juice concentrate The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of apple juice concentrate, not less than 700 Brix, for use in the production of apple juice. This concentrate is classified under tariff item No. 2009.79.10 of the Customs Tariff, dutiable at 9.35 cents/litre but not less than 8.5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is no rate available under the General Preferential Tariff (GPT) for this concentrate.

The list of goods currently subject to measures under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) and the relevant countries of origin or export has been updated, and is available on the CBSA website at: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/sima-lmsi/mif-mev-eng.html.

Update to CFIA AIRS website a) Chapter 6 was published to add a release recommendation for "Refer to CFIA-ISC" for the state of Vermont for the following HS codes: 06.02.90.0023.18 - Hemlock - rooted plants (Tsuga spp.) 06.02.90.0023.68 - Tiger-tail spruce - rooted plants (Picea polita) 06.02.90.0023.69 - Yeddo spruce - rooted plants (Picea jezoensis) b) Chapter 12 was published to add the conditions for the end use of "Cleaning (for)", and to modify the conditions for the end use of "Other end uses" for the following HS Code.

National Import Service Centre Consolidation Members may have noticed recent delays in the CFIA release of goods, some of which appear to be due to the April 1 closure of the Vancouver Import Service Centre. CFIA are moving toward a single National Import Service Centre which is currently operational. However, this centre will not operate 24/7 until July 2010, when the Montreal Import Service Centre will close. The CFIA has sent the following message regarding these recent delays.
