Japanese taste for Canadian energy cited in trade talks
May 24, 2012
The following is excerpted from the 23 May 2012 edition of Embassy Magazine. Although China is often brought up as the Asian country that craves Canada's energy, Japan has a thirst that it's hoping Canada can quench as well, says one academic. Julian Dierkes, Keidanren chair in Japanese research at the University of British Columbia's Institute of Asian Research, argued this, along with other reasons, is making The Great White North an attractive trade partner to the Land of the Rising Sun. How a CP strike affects Canada's supply chain
May 24, 2012
The following is excerpted from the 23 May 2012 edition of CBC News. When engineers and other workers at Canadian Pacific Railway walked off the job early Wednesday, they set off a strike that could affect coal mines, farms, auto manufacturing plants and maybe even the local Canadian Tire. Just how those ripples might spread will depend in large part on how long the strike lasts, and the flexibility producers have in getting their goods to where they want them to go.
