Softwood Quota Allocations, October 2010

Softwood Lumber interim quota allocations for OCTOBER 2010 are now available in EICS. Please be advised that the volume available currently represents 80% of the actual October allocation.

Wheat Products Tariff Rate Quota

This message applies to imports of wheat products covered by items 162 to 181 of the Import Control List (ICL). The purpose of this Notice is to advise importers that the wheat products tariff rate quota (TRQ) will be filled on October 15, 2010. Consequently, October 15 , 2010 (at 11:59 p.m.) will be the cut-off date for accounting for imports of all wheat products classified under a “within access commitment” tariff item number. CN 10-015: United States Loaded Freight Remaining On Board (FROB) Cargo

1. U.S. Meat Shipments at the Border - Update

Further to our message of September 10 regarding the processing of U.S. meat shipments at the border, the CSCB has since participated in a conference call with CFIA to discuss an alternative processing method. The following are the steps in a new proposal that was suggested on that conference call. Note that this is a proposal only, and is being circulated for comment.

Government of Canada funds green port project in Prince Rupert

The following is excerpted from the 14 September 2010 news release by Transport Canada. The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today announced that the Government of Canada will invest $2.5 million in the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s (PRPA’s) Fairview Terminal project to provide shore power capacity to container ships through an electric cable management system. Prince Rupert will be the first Canadian port to offer shore power for container ships.

PM announces support for revitalization of the Relance Terminal

Canada’s Economic Action Plan September 13, 2010 Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced support for the second phase of revitalizing the Relance Terminal in the Port of Sept-Îles. The Prime Minister also welcomed the significant progress achieved on the first phase of the revitalization, initiated in September 2009, which also received Economic Action Plan funding! . This Economic Action Plan initiative will create long-term jobs, improve the competitiveness of local industries and promote economic growth in Sept-Îles and the surrounding regions.

Certain Whole Potatoes

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today [September 10, 2010] issued an order following the expiry review of its order made on September 12, 2005, in Expiry Review No. RR-2004-006 concerning the dumping of certain whole potatoes originating in or exported from the United States of America for use or consumption in the province of British Columbia.
