Lobesia botrana: New requirements for grapes from California

(Following is a message from CFIA) As of July 19, 2010, the import of fresh table grapes for consumption that were produced and/or packed in areas of California that are regulated for European grapevine moth (EGVM), Lobesia botrana, will be approved, provided that the fruits were produced and/or packaged in a facility that is registered under a compliance agreement for EGVM with the USDA. Vineyards located outside of the regulated areas of California are not targeted by the requirements related to Lobesia botrana.

Order amending the Area Control List - Addition of North Korea

On July 13, 2010, the Government of Canada concluded the regulatory process to add the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to the Area Control List (ACL). As a result of the addition of North Korea to the ACL, all exporters wishing to export any goods or technology to North Korea will be required to obtain an export permit from the Export Controls Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in order to lawfully export or transfer such items to North Korea.

a) Chapter 01 was published to add the following OGD extension. 01.06.19.2069.60 - Degu (Octodon) This created a version change for all OGDs under the HS Code. 01.06.2069 - Rodents b) Chapter 01 was published to change the recommendation from "Refer to CFIA - Veterinary inspection" to "CBSA Inspection" for the following HS Code from Minnesota. 01.06.19.2072 - Rabbits and Hares This modification created a requirement version change for the same HS Code for all other U.S. States.

Changes to Import Notification Requirements - Phase 2

CFIA has posted a reminder to brokers and importers that effective July 19, 2010, the second phase of implementation of new import notification requirements comes into effect for selected commodities regulated under the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations. These requirements will facilitate the identification and tracking of the applicable commodities in the event of a food safety issue.

Import of Personally-Owned Pet Birds from the United States

For import purposes, the expression pet bird means a personally owned and cared for bird, and applies only to species commonly known as caged birds such as psittacines (birds in the parrot family), song birds, toucans, canaries, finches, cardinals, etc. The expression does not apply to pigeons, doves, species of wild or domesticated fowl, or game birds. It is possible to import personally-owned pet birds under the following conditions: a. the birds must accompany the owner or be in the possession of an immediate family member;

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has proposed amendments to the Energy Efficiency Regulations under which dealers in Canada would be required to comply with higher efficiency requirements for gas and oil water heaters and new reporting requirements for electric water heaters. Dealers who import these goods into Canada must include the following information on the release request: • type of product; • model number; • brand name; • name and address of the dealer importing the product; and
