VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Tonnage at Port Metro Vancouver is inching back towards 2008 levels, according to the 2010 mid-year results of overall throughputs in the Cargo Statistics Report. The report shows that 2010 is building momentum, with an overall tonnage increase of 20%, totalling 58.4 million tonnes to date... Total foreign tonnage increased 19%, to 45.5 million tonnes, with increased foreign exports to growing Asian economies leading the way…

CFIA Message: Meat Import Control and Data Information Centre Relocation

The following is to inform you that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) Meat Import Control and Data Information Centre (MICDIC) is moving on Saturday July 31st and Sunday August 1st. Service is expected to resume as scheduled on Monday, August 2, 2010. MICDIC provides meat pre-clearance for US origin meat. The Centre is the contact to obtain the inspection notice for US meat after the load enters Canada. The contact information will remain the same:

The Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is proposing to amend Canada's Energy Efficiency Regulations under which dealers in Canada would be required to comply with higher efficiency requirements for package terminal air conditioners and heat pumps (PTAC/HP). Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is following up on its stated intent to address compliance verification requirements for general service lamps before the 2012 minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) come into effect. They are proposing that general service lamps be third party energy efficiency verified when they become subject to their respective 2012 MEPS. The Canadian dollar rose against its U.S. counterpart on Tuesday, climbing to a five-week high after upbeat corporate earnings from both sides of the Atlantic whetted investor appetite for riskier assets. The currency touched C$1.0256 to the U.S. dollar, or 97.50 U.S. cents, its strongest level since June 22.
